ROOFING boss Jason Wright may be used to heights…but next week faces the ultimate challenge as he tackles Mount Kilimanjaro!
40-year-old Jason, MD of Bulwell-based J Wright Roofing, has been preparing for the climb since Christmas.
He said: “You could say that I am used to heights – but climbing Kilimanjaro is going to be quite a challenge. I am hoping that I won’t get altitude sickness, but no-one really knows until they try it.”
Jason is doing the climb for charity. He has already raised more than £5,000 in sponsorship from his trip. The cash will be split between Framework, the Nottingham charity which supports the homeless, and Help for Heroes.
To get ready for the trip, Jason has been a regular visitor to the gym – and has been on a healthy eating drive, even cutting out his beloved Guinness!
“I have been going to the gym and have only missed ten days since Christmas. I have lost nearly 8 kg and feel really fit to do the climb.”
Jason will be doing the climb with friend and business associate Trevor Poyzer. The pair have been putting in the hours in their walking boots to prepare for “Kili”.
The eight-day stint starts on Saturday when Jason arrives in Nairobi. They start their climb of Kilimanjaro on Monday – on the Tanzanian side.
“We have walked the north Norfolk coast and have done numerous walks in the Peak District,” says Jason. “We have had all the vaccinations and feel we are all ready to go!”
