Ashleigh’s young apprentices join the team to work on the Vineburgh Regeneration Project in Ayrshire.Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd, one of Scotland’s leading construction companies, has bucked the trend by appointing 9 young apprentices from Ayrshire following a project win.

The apprentices, who started earlier this month, have been appointed in a variety of disciplines to assist with phase one of the Vineburgh Regeneration Project in Ayrshire.

Ashleigh, a member of the Scottish Building Federation, was appointed to work with Cunninghame Housing Association on the regeneration of Vineburgh in Irvine, Ayrshire. Phase one will consist of 82 houses of which the apprentices will help build.

The opportunity was offered to 9 young people from Ayrshire aged between 16 and 19. They will be trained in a variety of disciplines including joinery, bricklaying, painting and plumbing over the course of the four year apprenticeship.

Alex Steel, Managing Director of Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd, said:

“We are extremely proud to be in this position; to be able to provide these opportunities especially in the current economic climate.

“Each of the nine apprentices will be given the opportunity to learn invaluable skills and experience which they will gain on the job and also from continuous education through our training and development programme.

“These apprentices will play a key role in transforming Vineburgh. We wish them every success in their training.”

Following Ashleigh’s commitment, three of its subcontractors – JJL Groundworks, Jordan Electrics and DM Roofing – have appointed two, one and one apprentices respectively, taking the total to 13.

The Masterplan outlines a number of proposals, including the construction of 306 new homes for the Vineburgh area, with the overall aim of regenerating the local community.
